Little
Freddie King
You Don't Know What I Know
FP1022-2
The liner
notes are pretty disturbing. Let me start off by throwing that out there. The artist
evidentially has a bullet lodged next to his spine, put there by his wife during a fight.
And it's not so much the facts of the case being put forth as the manner by which they are
disseminated. It's very matter of fact. One paragraph we are talking about his influences
and roots then BAM, we're talking bullets. The liner notes also mention that in between
his headaches and ulcers, they got a chance to record this guy and thank God, they did:
he's amazing.
Fred E.
Martin, also known as Little Freddie King was born in Mississippi, which thanks to a grade
school education, I can spell with little or no help from the computer spell check, which
by the way is often wrong in correcting my artful spelling of words. Freddie spent a lot
of time in jail evidentially and in fights, often to do with the drink. He was shot the
first time by a jealous husband. Then shot three more times by the aforementioned wife.
Has the NRA spoken to this guy? This is a great CD with tons of great moments; gunshots or
not!
Eleven beautiful tracks. This is really honest and raw stuff. No filters on this reality
baby. Little Freddie moves us through some intense guitar and vocal work. It's heartfelt
and sorrowful. Most of the tracks are original. Truly great stuff. There are some terrific
remixed stuff here too. That Robert Burnside processed sound stuff. It works great with
the material. Check out "Looking For My Woman" for an excellent example of the
beat in action. My favorite track is the first one "Crack Head Joe" and not just
because I used to go to school with Joe. It's a deeply moving track.
Check this CD
out. You will be glad you did. Just keep the pistols in your pockets.
