Joe Jonas
Me, Myself and I
Whale Records

There is nothing else quite like hearing Joe Jonas. I've been a big fan for a long time. And this is a great CD for those who don't know Joe. It covers a lot of ground. From "Hustler" 1963 on up through "Block Party" in the year of our lord 2000. This is the crème de la crème as the French would say: the cream on top of the cream. The thing is Joe Jonas is a treasure. A talented walking talking singing blues machine and there ain't no denying it. I was fortunate enough to get hold of his second release back in 2000 I believe, Juke at the Joint, which was recorded in Huntsville Prison. I'll never forget seeing him shouting blues out loud at a club one night so loud they didn't need a microphone anywhere near him.

This is a beautiful collection of tunes that spans a lifetime of work. Some live. Some not. Check out the wonderful "T.D.C. Blues" from 1999. A live tune that just rocks the house. Of course one of my favorites is "Choke the Chicken" from 1998. Not that I have anything against chickens! Some of my best friends have feathers. For some strange reason, Jonas must hate chickens. In the song he asks his lady friend to choke one. He's practically begging her to do it. I guess some people just really hate poultry. Hmmm. "Blue Soul" is a honey of song from 1972, ditto for "Life Was Cold" also from the 70's. Great stuff. Throughout the years, Jonas always brought amazing presence and style to his work. It's great too how the CD bounces back and forth across the decades. It paints a colorful picture of Jonas' musical history.

A wonderful CD for those unfamiliar with Jonas and his amazing abilities. Also a great CD for those of us who truly appreciate the man and his music!
