Ernie Johnson
Jesus is a Way Maker
I should preface my remarks here by saying I love listening to Ernie
Johnson. Always have. He is a dynamic performer live and his albums are fantastic. I love
listening to him on the DJ gig too. So my biased is out there, take it as you will. Bias
aside, this is a great album and I would say so even if Ernie's name wasn't on the album.
Oh, but his name is on the album and I'm still saying it's good. This is some fine stuff.
Johnson is bringing it back to the Church with this collection of spiritually infused
tunes. Johnson has always had the Church in his work somehow, but this album moves it to
the forefront. Nine tracks of divine music; all about WWJD.
This is a great CD. Loaded with good music and performances. Johnson is
an amazing gospel performer as well as R&B man. I love the track he does with Grammy
award winning artist Joe Lignon (Mighty Clouds of Joy) "I'm Building My Mansion in
the Sky". Another great tune is the Sam Cooke tune "That's Heaven to Me".
Johnson sounds wonderful on all the tracks. It's - and forgive me for the pun - Heavenly
stuff.
The beauty of a CD like this is how heartfelt it comes across. Johnson
is a man of his convictions and he puts them across with great sincerity and genuine love.
Check out how he handles "Lord Take Control" or "Bring Our Troops
Home". Johnson is able to convey so much through his voice. One of the things I have
always enjoyed about his work. The emotional payload Johnson consistently delivers is
really worthwhile. If you are a fan of devotional music and/or blues and/or Rhythm n
Blues, I highly recommend you pick up the new Ernie Johnson. Get your praise on!
