Rita and the Rock N Rollers
Hot Blooded
(SR 130)
Germany
folks. The land of bratwurst, black forest ham, October
fest and Lederhosen has brought us some rocking blues. Blues from Germany by way of
Dallas. And yes, the lady singing and playing bass is named Rita Rock. I know. How weird
is that? They recorded the CD in some place called Dallas, which I am almost sure, is
right next door to Frankfurt. Oh well. Actually I believe Rita and the guitar maestro
Bernard Groll are from Germany while the rest of the personnel are Dallas folks. I might
be wrong, but I doubt it.
Fourteen tracks of great blues. Rita is a great vocalist. She really has
a wonderful voice. Bernard is a very smooth and skilled blues guitar player. Together they
are an unbeatable force. They actually wrote all but two of the tracks and did a bang up
excellent job of it. Or as we say back in old Dusseldorf: wunderbar! I know, you didn't
know I could sprechen si deutsch! I can't really. But I have had German beer a few times.
In one of them big beer stein thingees. I can also do the chicken dance. But only after a
few of those German beers. But enough about my social life. Let's talk about the tracks.
"Echo Surfer" is a heck of a Dick Dale vibe inspired tune. The
title track "Hot Blooded" is really catchy and cool. Rita has great energy. It
really shines through in her vocals. Of course, she had to go and take on one of my
favorite tunes "Me and Bobby McGee". Fortunately for her, she handles it with a
lot of class and style. "Annoying Neighbor Blues" is another great song that
really shows you what these guys are made of. This is that German precision we always hear
so much about. Truly wonderful blues here. Give it a spin! Achtung baby!
